The Library of Congress is the world's preeminent reservoir of knowledge providing unparalleled integrated resources to Congress and the American people.
The Library of Congress Experience (LCE) has helped revolutionize the joy of learning world-wide by bringing history to life in a truly breathtaking architectural wonder. The seamless connection of the on-site and online experience has transformed the usual presentation of static collections to an interactive, technology-driven presentation of multimedia exhibitions.
The results have been remarkable. Visitor traffic to the Jefferson Building has increased more than 50 percent and over 80,000 users have registered for accounts via the myLOC.gov website. Online visitation has come from 187 countries and every US state and territory.
“The development and launch of the Library of Congress Experience required a degree of coordination and cooperation across the institution unprecedented in our long history, said Jo Ann Jenkins, chief operating officer at the Library of Congress. “Sapient helped us build an award-winning public experience by facilitating the successful collaboration of countless stakeholders across the Library.”

DefenseImagery.mil
Documenting the United States
Military Around the World
Designing a dynamic, expanded, and redesigned website for the Defense Visual Information (DVI) has created definitive “home for the military imagery professional.” The new site consolidated more than five different legacy websites under one umbrella to improve the user experience.

The Department of Defense sought out to reinvent the DVI website to showcase defense imagery and its signature role in attaining and providing images to the defense community, the media and the public. Before the redesign, the web presence was a collection of websites each with its own distant visual identity, content and functionality that presented visitors with a highly disjointed experience. The new website provides a more focused user experience and highlights the wealth of imagery content DVI produces.
Sapient Government Services performed a full user experience research study to determine the primary requirements for the site, a user experience model and the best future design concept for the new site. Sapient used the extensive user research to develop a site that places new emphasis usability, search functionality and one unified user experience.

Electronic Offering System
Changing Lives, by Saving Lives
Every year the lives of thousands of people are saved or transformed through organ transplant. Sapient helped the UK Department of Health develop a secure website that changes the way organs are made available to hospitals resulting in an increase in the number of successful organ transplants and more efficient health system – saving lives.

The UK National Health Service Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) asked Sapient to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organ offering process from a paper based manual process to an electronic system for organ offering. The solution was the development of an Electronic Organ System (EOS) that has had dramatic effects on the quality of patient care and safety.
Following extensive user experience interaction with teams of Donor Coordinators, the Organ Donation and Transplant office and Recipient Coordinators at transplant centers, Sapient was able to develop a solution that conveyed the required information and is flexible to accommodate future development.
One priority was to design a new system that was easy to use and delivered the maximum benefit for organ donations while simplifying the procedures and a more efficient end to end process. The Sapient Fusion workshop process was instrumental in gathering stakeholder requirements and ensuring alignment to deliver the right solution.
Since Donor Coordinators do not have accounts on computers in donor hospitals it was critical to develop a solution that worked with the mobile workforce. The existing Oracle National Transplant Database was already in place as the central repository, so EOS also had to provide a secure path with multi-factor secure authentication and password encryption from remote locations and mobile workers across the UK. The EOS application servers are fully redundant and in a separate secure data center based around a J2EE platform.
EOS uses electronic forms to record and store donor data so information about organs available for transplant can be displayed in real time using text and images. The electronic data capture at source by the Donor Coordinators eliminates transcription errors enhancing data quality, patient safety and a more efficient process.
Using leading edge, 3G enabled laptops Donor Transplant Coordinators are able to work independently in intensive care units until they are ready to share the information via the secure network. Since parallel organ offers are possible Recipient Coordinators at transplant centers can review all relevant information before they receive an offer and make decisions on potential patients. With improved accuracy and security, EOS speeds up the organ allocation process allowing more time to be spend with donor families and caring for the donor patient.
Faster organ offering has maximized the likelihood of a successful transplant outcome and improved lives of many patients and families.

A recognized leader in blood donation and transplant, NHS Blood and Transplant needed to improve delivery across a growing project portfolio to meet clinical demands. To manage projects to successful outcomes, Sapient helped NHS create a Program Management Office (PMO).
In implementing a PMO, Sapient analyzed the entire project portfolio by identifying, prioritizing and planning initiatives to address the most urgent organizational needs and minimize cost redundant efforts. The team developed and rolled out standardized processes and tools for project management across the entire organization to improve efficiency and successful outcomes. Also with the development of a program governance structure and support framework, the team was able to increase transparency into project delivery enabling clear visibility and control across the entire delivery process.
With the PMO, NHS Blood and Transplant has been able to deliver the right projects on-time and on-budget.
