Gateway Center Creates a New Connection with Help from Sapient Interactive

Feb. 9, 2010 – The Gateway Center, Atlanta’s community resource for homeless services, on Tuesday launched a new website (www.gatewayctr.org) and announced 2010 initiatives to end chronic homelessness in the city of Atlanta. The new website, designed and developed as a pro bono initiative by Sapient Interactive, the largest independent interactive marketing services firm, in partnership with Edelman Public Relations, is an emotional tour de force featuring the real-life stories and faces of homelessness, as well as ways in which Atlantans can get involved to help end chronic homelessness in the city.

    “The website will give our community and the world a view into the work that’s done at the Gateway Center to change lives and help end homelessness,” said executive director Vince Smith. “The new website is client-centered. It allows individuals to connect through volunteering and donating, and it will help bring the energy of social groups and faith-based organizations to the Gateway Center in a spirit of community collaboration.”

    For nearly a year, the Sapient Interactive team in Atlanta donated time and resources to the development of the website content, architecture and visual design.  Phase two rollouts include a marketing program and social media plan to drive awareness. The Atlanta office of Edelman, the world’s largest independently owned public relations firm, also contributed significant time and resources by facilitating the project and interviewing Gateway Center clients and staff for the website.

    “For a non-profit of the Gateway's size, the new website is very transformative,” said Steve Hambric, director at Sapient. “And through the custom content management system we built, Gateway will be able to maintain its web operations and expand to meet other areas of needs as it expands in the community.  This new channel of awareness and fundraising is critical to Gateway's long-term success.”

In addition to unveiling the new website, the Gateway Center also announced several banner initiatives for ending chronic homelessness in Atlanta in 2010, including:

• The extension of the Veteran’s Program designed to move those who have served in the nation’s armed forces from the streets into permanent housing;

• The continuation of a new Resident Assistant program that has successfully moved all participants into permanent housing in the past 12 months;

• A new volunteer program that provides opportunities for Atlantans to meaningfully assist and connect with homeless women and children.
